The Marketplace's goals are to create better conditions for European Independents to access to the international audio-visual market. It is contracted by the MEDIA Programme of the European Union to create & manage MEDIA Umbrella Stands at numerous major A.V. markets & festivals, such as MIPTV [Spring], Cannes Film Market & Festival [May], MIPCOM [Autumn] and European Film Market Berlin [February]. The MEDIA Umbrella stands host up to 200 selected European producers and distributors, who can benefit from preferential participation fees & the use of a vast, fully equipped and decorated stand with a host of services and facilities.

THE MEDIA PROGRAMME

The MEDIA Programme has been active since 1988 to strengthen the position of the European audiovisual industry. MEDIA support stretches from Training and Development to Distribution and Promotion. One of the objectives of the Programme has been from the beginning to facilitate the access for independent European professionals to international trade fairs and festivals, such as MIP-TV, MIPCOM [Cannes], the Cannes Film Market [alongside Cannes Film Festival] and the European Film Market [Berlin], as these events play an important role in the promotion and sales of European films and programmes and the networking of professionals.

Attending these major markets may be considered to be quite a substantial investment on the part of the smaller production and distribution companies. Therefore, the MEDIA Programme offers to host them on a professional European Umbrella Stand, making numerous services and facilities available to them, including expert advice and personal guidance. Over and above, the selected Umbrella participants benefit from discounted registration fees.
